Exploring the Solar Plexus Chakra
The solar plexus chakra is the third of the seven main chakras within the human energy field. This chakra is home to our identity, personality, ego & self esteem. The energy of the solar plexus will determine one’s sense of self + perception of what they are capable of achieving. As a result, the solar plexus chakra works like an internal motor or engine. It’s energy is the driving force of one’s personal will and power.
Additionally, the solar plexus chakra is the meeting place of one’s internal instincts, impulses + desires with external pressures such as demands, obligations & expectations. An open and balanced solar plexus will exhibit a healthy personality that is able to withstand the pressures of external forces, manage their internal emotions & desires + channel their energy with intention + purpose.
When the energy of the solar plexus is functioning optimally, the individual with exhibit self-confidence, leadership, determination, independence, self control and possess a positive outlook. However, these qualities can also turn into the shadow energy of control, manipulation, perfectionism & competition if the energy of the solar plexus is overactive. If under-active, the individual may have low energy levels, low self-esteem, distorted self image, lack the drive to go after what they want and have doubt their abilities.
Feelings of anger & tension are also held in the gut. Therefore, an individual with blocked solar plexus energy may exhibit strong feelings of frustration, aggression & irritability. Feelings like these are completely normal & healthy to experience. However, we must have outlets to release the energy otherwise the block will continue to grow and can lead to physical symptoms & illness. Digestion issues and tumors (liver, pancreas, stomach) are common physical symptoms of unresolved solar plexus traumas.
Where Intention Goes Energy Flows
The root chakra is said to governs one’s physical world, the sacral chakra one’s emotional world and the solar plexus chakra one’s mental world. The energy of the solar plexus chakra will be a strong indication of of one’s mental health and outlook. An individual with a healthy and balanced solar plexus chakra is someone who looks for solutions and can see possibility and potential. Whereas an individual with blocked solar plexus energy may be confined to the limiting beliefs of their inner critic. The root, sacral & solar plexus charkas are all very closely linked, and one’s inner voice / outlook on life develops based on our emotional and physical environments.
When working with the energy of the solar plexus chakra, it’s important to start building ourselves from the ground up by returning to the practice of nurturing our root and sacral chakras. Our thoughts match the frequency of our emotions. So, when we start to consistently feel good about ourselves from the inside out, over time our thoughts will begin to match the frequency of our feelings. We do this by by tending to our physical and emotional needs and becoming aware of the power of our thoughts / mind.
Let Your Inner Light Shine
Self awareness is the seed of the solar plexus. When you become aware of what the little voice in your head has been telling you about what you can or can’t do, you open up the opportunity to change that narrative. To question the why behind those thought processes and to simply meet that voice with loving kindness by saying: I hear you, & I push past these limitations + allow myself to grow and expand.
Many people in their lifetime never move past the limitations of their inner voice / critic into the expansive and compassionate energy of the heart chakra and upper chakras; where one learns to share their true and authentic light with the world. Most of the time, our inner voice is formed from past disappointments as an attempt to keep us safe or, from harsh criticism that we repeatedly hear from an external source and becomes engrained into our subconscious beliefs. Either way, when our inner critic feels threatened by expansion, it will get us to dim our light in order to fit in and remain small.
However, in order to break the pattern, our solar plexus asks us to unapologetically allow our inner light shine and to take a leap of faith. Forgiving oneself for past mistakes and re-framing disappointment as an opportunity to learn rather than getting stuck in feelings of shame and giving your power away. The sacral chakra is our emotional center where we feel and carry our emotions, however, the solar plexus stores the memories that we attach to our emotions. By re-framing your out look, you re-claim your personal power.
Trust Your Gut / Solar Plexus Chakra
Lastly, the solar plexus chakra is directly linked to our gut and our core. The solar plexus is attached to the pancreas which regulates metabolism and is also known as “the seat of the intuition” or the “seat of the soul.” Meaning, where our gut instincts come from. The solar plexus energy can be thought of as our core energy / unique spark and asks us to get out of our thinking mind & in touch with our “gut feelings.”
